🔴BREAKING: Schools in 19 counties now asked to close tomorrow until at least 10am

It must be stated that people are advised to check locally to see what direction their own school is taking, either via whatsapp, school groups or word of mouth – every school will go on a case by case basis, but it’s highly likely the vast majority of them will be closed.

According to Keith Leonard, national director of fire and emergency management, all schools and creches in the 19 counties on red and orange alerts will be asked to remain closed until at least 10am tomorrow, reports RTE.

Leonard made the announcement to the media during a last-minute meeting of the National Emergency Coordination Group tonight as Storm Devi approaches the country.

Met Éireann issued two red wind warnings for five counties overnight.

A red wind warning is in place for Clare, East Galway and South Roscommon from 3am to 5am, and a separate red wind warning for Offaly and Westmeath is in place from 5am to 7am.

Met Eireann said there would be strong “with potential danger to life” winds during this period.

Fallen trees, significant power outages and structural damage are expected

A red status alert is the highest level forecast warning.

An orange wind warning will be in place from 2am for Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Cavan, Monaghan, Clare, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, Galway and Roscommon.

A yellow warning for wind and rain will apply across the country from midnight today until 3pm tomorrow.
