A man suspected of killing 18 people and wounding 13 more in a shooting spree in the US city of Lewiston, Maine has been found dead.
The discovery ended a 48-hour manhunt leading to police finding the body of 40-year-old Robert R. Card. It was discovered in the woods near the neighbouring town of Lisbon following sightings of the vehicle involved in the shooting.
“He is dead,” Maine Governor Janet Mills told a packed out news conference, thanking police, the public and various services.
“Like many people, I am breathing a sign of relief tonight, knowing that Robert Card is no longer a threat to anyone. Now is the time to heal,” she said.
Robert Card died of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.
