Imprisoned teacher Enoch Burke has been freed despite his courageous refusal to purse his contempt of court.
Mr Burke was persecuted by the state after he defied a suspension from his position at Wilson’s Hospital School in Co Westmeath after he refused to use pronouns for a student who wanted to be called they instead of he.
Mr Justice Brian O’Moore issued the ruling to release Mr Burke on Wednesday evening after a hearing earlier the same day.
The judge said the only threat to Mr Burke’s continued freedom would be if he again breached a High Court order, RTE reports.
Many believe that Mr Burke’s release marks a significant moral victory for proponents of both free speech and common sense who refuse to bow to the tyranny of what they say is an anti-free speeh mob.
