An investigation is underway after the body of a woman, believed to be in her 80s, was discovered at a house in a rural area of Ardsallagh near Youghal Bridge in Co Waterford.
Gardaí were alerted shortly after 2pm on Monday and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, which has been preserved for forensic examination.
Officers are examining all the circumstances surrounding the incident. A senior investigating officer has been appointed to lead the inquiry, and an incident room has been set up at Dungarvan Garda Station.
A Garda Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to support the woman’s family. The local coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have been notified, and the Garda Technical Bureau has been asked to assist.
A post-mortem examination will be carried out, and its findings will help determine the direction of the investigation.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward, particularly anyone who was in the Ardsallagh or Youghal Bridge areas in recent days. They are also asking road users with camera footage, including dash-cam recordings from the area, to contact them.
