11-yr-old child with autism arrested in school for “poking classmate with a pencil” and parent forced to pay thousands to bail out her son

Video footage of an 11-yr-old boy diagnosed with autism and sensitive to touch has emerged showing police officers arresting the boy who allegedly poked his classmate with a pencil.

The boy who is only identified by the initials A.V. is grabbed by the police officers and pushed against a desk whilst they ignore the boys screams that they are hurting him. The child is then kept in the the back of a police car alone where he repeatedly banged his head on the plexiglass inside the patrol car for two hours according to the Metro.

In the video, the child is grabbed by the police officer and says “We don’t wanna hurt you. We just want you to walk with us” and the child shouts “‘ow’ and tells the officers to stop before asking: ‘You don’t even know what the word “stop” means?’

The school in Colorado initially called the police with reports that a child had stabbed a classmate with scissors and assaulted a member of staff back in August 2019. The case is only coming to light now in a court case taken by the child’s mother.

The child was later held in a youth detention centre on various assault and resisting arrest charges until his parents could post $25,000 (€21,000) bail. All charges were later dropped.

In the lawsuit, the mother claims her son poked a classmate with a pencil because he was agitated when they drew on him with a marker, which he would not have liked the touch of.
