A 12-yr-old girl was held at a youth facility after stabbing her 9-yr-old brother, police said.
The stabbing was reported just before midnight Thursday at an apartment building in the St. Thomas Square community south of downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma, the Tulsa Police Department said in a statement released Friday.
“Officers learned the children’s parent was upstairs asleep when the 12-year-old daughter woke the parent up and said that she had stabbed her 9-year-old brother,” the Tulsa Police Department said, reports NBC News.
City firefighters and paramedics from a contracted emergency medical service performed CPR before the boy was taken to the hospital, the department said.
He underwent surgery before succumbing to his injuries around 2.30am on Saturday, police said.
The girl was taken into custody at the Family Center for Juvenile Justice in Tulsa and remained there until at least Friday, police said. The allegations behind his detention were not available and the reason for the alleged attack was not disclosed.
It is unclear whether the little girl, whose name has been withheld for reasons of age, has had a lawyer for the case. The Tulsa County Public Defenders juvenile division did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
