A teenage boy has sadly lost his life after a swimming accident in the River Shannon in Athlone.
It is understood the boy got into difficulties while swimming close to the Athlone Sub Aqua clubhouse, north of the River Shannon bridge.
Emergency services were called and the boy was rushed to Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe, where he later passed away.
