1,500 migrants are without accommodation in Ireland, High Court hears

It has been reported before the High Court that 1,500 asylum seekers in Ireland are now without a place to stay, reports RTE.

Lawyers for the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC), who are pursuing the first action of its sort against the State, presented the statistic. They are contesting the State’s inability to accommodate and satisfy the requirements of individuals who are seeking international protection in this country.

Prior to 300 of those being provided housing after the operation on Mount Street, Senior Counsel Patricia Brazil stated that at the beginning of the week, there were over 1,800 unaccommodated persons seeking international protection, reports RTE.

She stated that the majority of these were single males since the State had given families and kids priority.

At the end of this month, the IHREC’s case is scheduled to go to trial in its entirety. However, State solicitors requested an adjournment from the court.

They were requesting a postponement, according to Senior Counsel David Conlon Smyth, because they had received 1,000 pages of material from the IHREC, reports RTE.

However, he said that the relocation process at Mount Street had placed “considerable burdens” on the State.

He noted that a significant portion of the multi-agency operation that was conducted on Wednesday was shared among individuals who would be swearing affidavits on behalf of the State in this matter, reports RTE.
