16-yr-old boy charged with murder of man in Tipperary last year

A 16-yr-old boy has appeared before court accused of the murder of a man in Co Tipperary last year.

The alleged attack took place in the Castlecranna area, roughly 12km southwest of Nenagh, on 10 March 2025, reports RTE.

The victim, Stephen Clarke, who was in his 30s, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

He later died in hospital on the morning of 25 April 2025, reports RTE.

The teenage accused, who cannot be named due to his age, appeared before Tipperary Town District Court sitting in Thurles earlier today.

Detective Garda Padraig O’Leary of Nenagh Garda Station gave evidence regarding the arrest, charge and caution during a brief hearing this afternoon, reports RTE.

He told the court that the accused did not respond when the charge was put to him earlier in the day.

Judge Marie Keane stated that she did not have the authority to grant bail in a murder case, reports RTE.

The court heard that a place was available for the teenager at Oberstown Children Detention Campus in Dublin.

Judge Keane remanded him in custody to Oberstown, where he is due to appear via video link before Nenagh District Court next Wednesday, reports RTE.
