
The stabbing of a Defence Forces chaplain in Galway in August has led to the charging of a 16-year-old teenager with attempted murder, reports RTE.
Due to his age, the youngster cannot be recognised. He was originally accused of assaulting Fr. Paul F. Murphy at Renmore Barracks on August 15 and causing him damage.
He made an appearance this morning at Galway District Court in connection with the amended accusation, reports RTE.
Judge Mary Fahy was informed by Sergeant Joanne McGhee that the State was filing an application to drop the Section 3 Assault charge and substitute it with other counts.
Investigator Garda The arrest, charge, and caution were described in detail to the court by Conor Breen of the Galway Garda Station, reports RTE.
He informed the court that at 12:25 p.m. on August 15, in Renmore Barracks, he had charged the youngster with Fr. Murphy’s attempted murder.
In addition, he accused him with assault inflicting hurt in accordance with Section 4 of the Non Fatal Offences 1997.
The accused’s father and attorney were present when the allegations were brought against him, the court was informed, reports RTE.
He did not respond to the accusations.
During the brief court appearance, the kid remained silent, reports RTE.
