
A 16-yr-old teenager has been brought before the court in relation to the stabbing of an Army chaplain that occurred two days prior, reports RTE.
Just after 2:30 PM today, the accused—who cannot be identified legally because he is a minor—appeared before Galway District Court Judge Gerard Furlong.
He was allegedly radicalised online by ISIS, has been charged in connection with Galway stabbing of Fr Paul Murphy
In connection with the stabbing that occurred in Renmore on Thursday night, he is accused with assault causing hurt. The gardaà have indicated in court that more charges may be brought as their investigation is ongoing, reports RTE.
Because of the nature of the offence, the accused’s plea for bail was rejected by the GardaÃ.
Detective Sergeant Paul McNulty informed the judge that there was a possibility the accused might flee, reports RTE.
Judge Furlong stated that he was declining the accused’s request for bail due to the gravity of the case, the reliability of the presented evidence, and the overall context of the case.
After being placed under arrest, the adolescent was sent to Oberstown Children Detention Campus.
He is scheduled to return to court on Tuesday, August 20, reports RTE.
