17-yr-old boy gets charged over fatal car crash in Cork




A 17-yr-old boy appeared before Mallow District Court in Co Cork, charged with dangerous driving after causing the death of another teenager in a road accident on the M8 motorway in July last year, reports RTE.

The youth were charged with a number of other charges, including dangerous driving causing serious injury, unlawful driving and causing endangerment.

Emergency services received reports of a two-car collision on the northbound carriageway of the M8 motorway near Mitchelstown, north Cork, in the early hours of July 1 this year.

Five people, four teenagers and a 30-year-old woman, were injured and taken to hospital, reports RTE.

A fifth teenager, 16-year-old Johnny Foley from Spur Hill, Cork, who was traveling in the car, died in the crash.

The accused, who cannot be identified due to his age, was charged with a total of 12 charges, including: dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, unlawful driving and endangering.

Detective Garda John Murphy of Fermoy Garda Station gave evidence this morning to arrest and charge the accused, reports RTE.
