A young man who died in a tragic crash was described as “irreplaceable” and a “gift from god” at his funeral, his family said, reports The Mirror.
Cian Farrell, 18, lost his life following the crash on the L5140 at Laghtadawannagh, near Ballina, Co Mayo, shortly after 4.15am last Sunday, reports The Mirror.
Mourners filled St. Muredach’s Cathedral in Ballina for the teenager’s funeral mass on Saturday.
A eulogy read on behalf of the family said Cian’s life brought more “love” and “light” than many experience in a lifetime, reports The Mirror.
It began: “Today, we’re gathered here with broken hearts to remember a young man whose life, though only 18 years, was filled with more love, light, and meaning than many experience in a lifetime.
“He was a caring, strong, and unbelievably smart. To his friends, he wasn’t just a friend; he was a brother, he was irreplaceable”, reports The Mirror.
“The kind of person who showed up, who made you laugh when you needed it most, brought joy into every room, simply by being himself. He was funny, unforgettable, and full of life. He lived his short life to the fullest, always with a smile on his face. To his mother Louise, he was your world, he was your heart beating outside your body, to his family, he was a precious gift from god, a blessing we’ll always be grateful for – no matter how painfully short”, reports The Mirror.
The eulogy continued: “He was taken from us far too soon. The love he gave, the laughter he shared, and the light that he brought into our lives will never be forgotten. We will miss him more than words can ever express, but we will carry him with us, in our memories, in our stories, and in the way that we love one another. He was a gift from god to us”, reports The Mirror.
Symbols placed on the altar to honour Cian’s life included aftershave, a model Mercedes-Benz, an iPhone charger, his Irish and American passports, and a photo of him with his mum Louise.
Cian died alongside his friend Padraic Tuffy, who was also killed in the crash. Padraic’s funeral took place on Friday, reports The Mirror.
Two teenage boys and a girl were taken to Mayo University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. All five had been travelling in the same car.
In a statement last week, Gardaà said: “Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) from the area at the time are asked to make it available to investigating GardaÔ, reports The Mirror.
