The UK are preparing to release their new state of the art Arctic research ship, the ‘Sir David Attenborough’, from its construction yard.

The £200 million vessel, which took four years to build, is named after Britain’s beloved naturalist and filmmaker Sir David Attenborough and will be one of the world’s most sophisticated research ships.

She boasts a helipad, cranes, cutting edge laboratories and a ‘Moon Hole’ enabling scientists to dispatch probes and other equipment. In the next few days the ship is anticipated to leave its yard in Birkenhead, near Liverpool, and travel to Holyhead in Wales where engineers will ensure the ship is ready for its ambitious icy missions.

She is expected to begin taking UK scientists to the Arctic and Antarctic in November 2021.
