$20,000 cash dropped in street in Switzerland gets returned to its rightful owner

When an elderly man suddenly realized that he was missing more than $20,000 in cash that he had just withdrawn from a Swiss bank, he thought he had been robbed.

Instead, a couple found the wad of cash, put it in an envelope and dumped in the street, and went to his house to return the money in full, police said.

Authorities said the man, who is mute, went to a bank in the southern Swiss town of Martigny and withdrew 20,000 Swiss francs (€20,280).

When he got home, he discovered that the envelope was missing.

Assuming that he must have been robbed on his way home, he went to the police to report the stolen money.

However, it turned out that he had not been the victim of foul play, but had simply dropped the envelope as he was getting into his car, which was parked in front of the bank.

A couple found the envelope, which in addition to the wad of bills contained a collection slip with the man’s address.

They went to his house to return the full money.

The man was so grateful that he gave the couple 500 francs, police said, praising a “lovely story of citizen honesty”, reports RTE.
