The body of a 5-year-old boy was found cut open in a wooden box filled with concrete that his mother used as a bedside table.

Officers discovered the body of Milagros Nazareth Martin in the Argentine capital of Buenos Aires after her caring father contacted them because he hadn’t seen her in months.

The girl’s mother, Vanesa Mansilla, was charged with “culpable homicide”.

She is said to have first inform the father that she had sent the girl in the care of social services as the poor living conditions in her home.

When the police show up to search her house, she told them that her daughter was dead but that she didn’t know what to do and she was “scared”.

Fearing that her other two children, aged three and seven, would be taken away from her, she is said to have placed her body in a sack, which was placed in a box filled with cement taken from a neighbor building site.

“She used the box with the body inside as a bedside table in her bedroom,” an investigator told Telam, a local news agency, reports Sky.

A post-mortem examination concluded that Milagros had died of a respiratory infection due to pre-existing disease, which required a tracheostomy and nasogastric tube.

A spokesman for the judiciary said: “So far there is no record of previous complaints of gender violence,” reports Sky.

“She said that everything happened one afternoon after bathing her children. She went to take a nap and when she woke up she went to see the girl, and she had already died. She said that she had a runny nose and drool in her mouth.” said the investigator, reports Sky.

Secondly, the emergency investigation was ordered when the parents were not informed by the authorities.

Milagros’ two brothers were reportedly placed in the care of their grandmother.
