2020 saw four times more people lose their jobs than in the 2008 banks crash, says UN

A mind boggling 255 million people around the World lost their full time jobs in 2020. That’s four times more job losses than the global banking crash of 2008 says a newly published UN International Labour Organisation (ILO) Report.

The ILO estimates 8.8% of working hours globally were lost last year which is equivalent to 255 million full time jobs. The ILO have compared the COVID-19:lockdown strategy to the Great Depression saying we are experiencing “the most severe crisis for the world of work” since the Great Depression of the 1930’s as reported in RT.

The ILO Report does see some signs of hope with “tentative signs of recovery”but risks of an uneven recovery remain.

The Global Pandemic and the Lockdown strategy continues to have massive financial negative effects on workers around the World. For those that remember the banks crash in 2008, many suffered both mental and financial hardships with some taking their own lives. How do you think Ireland will recover Post COVID-19? Will we be weaker or stronger as a Nation?
