Donald Trump has been given a boost as a large majority of Republican senators voted in favour of an effort to dismiss the former President’s impeachment trial.
Although the impeachment trial will go ahead on February 8th, all but five senators voted in favour of dismissing the trial before it has even begun.
The developments which will come as positive news to Trump as a conviction that would require the support of 17 Republicans now seems unlikely.
Speaking following the vote Rand Paul, said the impeachment Bill delivered by the house on Monday is dead on arrival.
It is believed that most Republicans believe that former President’s cannot be impeached once they leave office.
The news could also reignite the former President’s plans to run in 2024.
