A young Irish man has been “killed in action” in Ukraine, his family has announced.
23-yr-old Rory Mason, was fighting in the International Legion for the Defence of Ukraine as part of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
He was from Dunboyne, Co Meath and he was fighting in the Kharkiv region near the Russian border.
It’s understood that enlisted to fight in Ukraine last March.
According to RTE, hits father said he had “a deep sense of right and wrong and an inability to turn the other way in the face of injustice”.
Various Ukrainian authorities have thanked Rory for leaving Ireland to fight in the Ukraine, eventually resulting in him losing his life.
His family and community in Dunboyne say they’re very proud of him.
