29 fatalities after bus crash in the Portuguese island of Madeira

At least twenty-nine people have died after a bus packed with tourists crashed in the Portuguese island of Madeira on Wednesday evening.

It is understood that the bus, which had been in service for just five years, was ferrying German tourists to an evening meal in a nearby town.

Eighteen men and eleven women lost their lives. Twenty seven others sustained injuries, including the bus driver and a local tour guide.

The crash occurred near a very sharp bend where locals say a lot of accidents have happened in the past.
