The 29 year old Australian national who murdered 51 people in two mosque shootings has been jailed for the rest of his life by a New Zealand court, the BBC reports.
In March 2019, Brenton Tarrant carried out horrendous shooting sprees on two mosques in Christchurch, NZ, killing 51 worshippers and wounding another 40. He also streamed the attacks on social media. His is the first full life sentence ever issued by a New Zealand court, and the first ever conviction for terrorism.
The presiding judge described Tarrant as ‘inhuman’, according to the BBC, while PM Jacinda Ardern expressed her hope that the country never has to ‘think about him, to see him or to hear from him again’. It is believed that the gunman was radicalised against Islam while travelling in Europe in the early 2010s.
