3-year-sentence for man who set Garda Patrol car on fire in Donegal

Gary McGinley, a 36-year-old man from Donegal, has been sentenced to three years in prison for setting a patrol car on fire outside Castlefin Garda Station. The incident, which caused significant damage, was captured on CCTV, reports Breaking News.

McGinley was heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident and later admitted to the crime. He stated that he had been drinking for several days and wanted to be arrested.

The attack was not random, as McGinley lived just 400 yards from the garda station. He resisted arrest but was eventually taken into custody and questioned at Letterkenny Garda Station.

During questioning, McGinley immediately admitted to the attack. He revealed that he had been drinking vodka for several days prior to the incident.

This was not McGinley’s first run-in with the law. He had 18 previous convictions, including making threats to kill, theft, intoxication, burglary, and assault causing harm. At the time of the arson attack, he was out on bail for another matter.
