35-yr-old migrant in Dublin jailed for two separate rapes of women who were sleeping

After being raped while she was sleeping, a lady said that she felt like pulling her soul from her body to free herself. She has since forgiven her rapist and prayed to God to cure him, reports Breaking News.

During Daniel Okungbowa’s sentencing hearing, the lady read her victim impact statement. Okungbowa was convicted of raping both this woman and another four years later, and he was sentenced to eleven and a half years in prison. At the time of the rape, both ladies were asleep.

After a trial at the Central Criminal Court, Okungbowa (35), of Thornfield Square, Clondalkin, Dublin 22, was found guilty of one count of rape. On September 13, 2020, he had entered a not guilty plea for the rape of a lady in a Dublin flat, reports Breaking News.

After being found guilty in that instance, Okungbowa entered a guilty plea to another rape of a 23-year-old woman on November 26, 2016, which had happened four years prior. Up until then, he had denied doing the offence.

This 31-year-old victim of a 2016 rape delivered her victim impact statement into the record during a previous sentencing hearing, reports Breaking News.

She said that following the rape, she had anxiety and self-harm in addition to being unhappy and “unkind to herself.”

“It felt like my soul left my body the night I was raped, and I have been searching for it ever since,” she continued, before she said she had felt like ripping her soul out of her flesh to release herself, reports Breaking News.

She claimed that making her victim statement helped her accept what had occurred. “I am pleased with myself today. I came across who I was. Justice is being done, and I have been saved today. I felt ashamed, devastated, and degraded. I had so many times wished to die. I spent my time crying, alone, and alone.

“I’m well now. I can now honestly say that I’m sorry. There was a moment when I thought my life was over and hoped for the worst for you. I will not give you the entire chapter. You are no longer worth a paragraph; you are just a passing sentence now, the woman remarked,” reports Breaking News.

“Thankfully, I have survived. I know that you are nothing other than a predator. You preyed on me while I slept. You raped me while I slept. I forgive you and I pray that God heals you. I am no longer your victim. I survived you,” the woman concluded her statement,” reports Breaking News.

In her victim impact statement, the lady who was raped in September 2020 stated that while she had been out partying with friends that evening, when she woke up, she discovered a guy had raped her.

She claimed she had no idea how she would be able to put it out of her mind. “I lost that person I was once.” I am nothing more than a facade. I promise that I will never be the same,” she said.

She said that the incident severely harmed her connection with her family and that she quit her job.

Speaking about testifying in court, the lady said it was “torture, but I am proud that I did” to tell a room full of strangers what had happened to her that evening, reports Breaking News.
