36-yr-old woman appears in court after plotting suicide bomb attack on St Paul’s Cathredal in London on behalf of Islamic State




A 36-yr-old woman in the UK, who is an admitted supporter of the Islamic State, has appeared via video link at the Old Bailey in London charged with the preparation of terrorist acts and dissemination of terrorist publications.

Appearing via video link from HMP Bronzefield a black hijab and Islamic garb Safiyya Shaikh was accused of spreading pro-I.S propaganda and planning to carry out a suicide bombing attack against the UK capital’s historic St Paul’s Cathedral.

Shaikh offered no pleas but will face a two to three-week trial next April or May following a preliminary hearing, again at the Old Bailey, next February 21st.

Prosecutor Lee Ingham listed evidence against Shaikh which included undercover police work, CCTV and forensic computer analysis.

Mr Ingham said:
“This is a case involving charges of preparation of terrorist acts and dissemination of terrorist publications.
It’s a highly complex and time-consuming task to review what is some very lengthy material and whether or not it’s evidence it will need to be reviewed for disclosure purposes.”
