During garda immigration inspections along the border during the last week, 50 persons were found entering the State without the required documentation or visas, reports RTE.

From last Monday, May 20, to these four days, the checks were completed.

Those discovered to have entered Ireland illegally and refused “leave to land” were sent back to the United Kingdom, according to the Gardaí.

Depending on the situation, these returns were made by ferry from Dublin Port to either Holyhead or Belfast, reports RTE.

According to Gardaí, these 50 detections come on top of the 107 individuals who were found to have entered the State without the necessary identity documents or visas between the end of 2023 and May 20 of this year.

They claimed that during the last quarter of 2023, 11 days of activity were completed. Up to May 20, an additional 10 days of activity were held, with an additional 4 days occurring over the previous week.

The discoveries coincide with the erecting of 74 tents along Dublin’s Grand Canal today, reports RTE.
