7 out of 10 voters blame Martin for Fianna Fáil’s horrendous presidential campaign

Sixty-eight per cent of voters hold Taoiseach Micheál Martin responsible for Fianna Fáil’s mishandled presidential bid, although his personal approval rating has improved since last month.

A Sunday Independent/Ireland Thinks survey released on Sunday shows that just 14 per cent of respondents fault Jim Gavin for the debacle, while only 5 per cent blame the party’s deputy leader, Jack Chambers, reports Breaking News.

The poll was published ahead of an interim review of Fianna Fáil’s management of the campaign, a report now expected to be delayed until after the new year, according to the Irish Times.

The review had initially been scheduled for release by November 12th, but its publication date has been postponed several times, reports Breaking News.

Cónal Thomas, Political Correspondent with the Sunday Independent, discussed the poll results during an appearance on Newstalk.

“Simon Harris’ personal popularity stays at about 34 per cent, which was a record low last month since he took over from Leo Varadkar. Interestingly, Micheál Martin’s popularity has gone back up to about 36 per cent from 33 per cent last month – albeit from a very, very high drop of 10 points last month,” reports Breaking News.
