
In the initial two hours of National Slow Down Day, gardaĆ detected 72 instances of speeding by cars, reports Breaking News.
On Monday, 29,729 cars’ speeds were recorded by GardaĆ, of which 72 exceeded the speed limit.
A driver travelling 74 km/h in a 50 km/h zone on the R661 Holycross in Tipperary and a driver travelling 75 km/h in a 50 km/h zone on Rochestown Road in Cork are two of the fastest speeds ever recorded, reports Breaking News.

On the R772 Clavass in Enniscorthy, County Wexford, a motorist was seen travelling at 106 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.
On the N18 Ballinacurra near Limerick, a driver was observed exceeding the speed limit by 115 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.
On the M6 Killavally Tyrrellspass in Westmeath, a driver was seen travelling at 129 km/h in a zone that was intended for 120 km/h.
In a statement, gardaĆ said: āWith the return of schools across the country, additional traffic will be on the roads, in particular younger vulnerable road users, pedestrians, cyclists and school buses dropping and collecting school children. It is important to remember that no matter how good the road and weather conditions are, any increase in speed will significantly increase the likelihood of being involved in a serious or fatal road traffic collision,” reports Breaking News.
