
A large majority (79 per cent) of adults in Ireland say they are likely to cast their vote in the upcoming presidential election, according to new data from iReach Insights, reports Breaking News.
Even though some have described the three-way contest for Áras an Uachtaráin as uninspiring, most adults still plan to vote.
The candidates in the race to replace President Michael D Higgins are Heather Humphreys (Fine Gael), and Independent Catherine Connolly.

According to the research, 78 per cent of adults believe the next president should come with a background in politics.
When asked what quality matters most in the next head of state:
28 per cent of adults say it’s a connection with ordinary people.
20 per cent say it’s experience in politics.
20 per cent say it’s a defender of Irish culture and heritage.
15 per cent say it’s fresh outsider perspective.
Highest at 28 per cent, Gen Z adults think fresh outside perspective is the most important quality the next president should have.
Just over half (55 per cent) of adults report feeling a connection to the presidency, with 14 per cent of those feeling very connected, reports Breaking News.
More than one in four people (28 per cent) think younger voters will play a more significant role in this election compared to previous ones.
Among adults aged 25–34, 45 per cent believe younger voters will have a greater impact this time around, reports Breaking News.
Thirty per cent of adults say the presidency should focus more on building unity within Ireland, while 24 per cent think the emphasis should be on representing Ireland internationally.
Despite ongoing speculation about other potential contenders, only three candidates will officially contest the presidency, reports Breaking News.
Sinn Féin opted to support Catherine Connolly, joining other left-wing parties, instead of putting forward their own nominee.
