An 8-year-old girl has died after allegedly being raped by up to 16 men, including relatives, over a period of three years.
The shocking incident was reported in Chennai, the capital city of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, in recent times.
The girl was reportedly taken to hospital after falling ill at her home but passed away shortly afterwards.
This case had first been highlighted over two years ago, when her mother reported to authorities that both her daughters were being subjected to sexual assault by relatives and other men.
Local police have arrested 16 men in connection with the incident.
