Water charges are ‘irreversible’ in EU law, according to lawyers

A group of legal advisers commission has claimed that EU law prohibits the scrapping of either Irish Water or water charges.

The commission, hired and paid of course by Irish Water to do its bidding, decided that, under European law, the utility must stay.

The commission said “The benefit of the derogation has been lost for all time, and cannot be revived by seeking to reverse the decision to introduce charges.”

This is but the latest in a long running saga of disastrous policies and decisions taken by the Government in relation to water charges.

The issue of Irish Water has become the one stumbling block to form a new government, and the biggest PR disaster in history since declaring the Titanic ‘unsinkable.’
