A five and a half-year jail sentence was imposed on a man who, after giving a teenage girl drink and telling her that “age is just a number,” sexually assaulted her in a park, reports The Mirror.
On December 11, 2020, Nicolas Horvath, 28, formerly of Stonecourt, Roscommon, Co. Roscommon, entered a guilty plea to one count of rape. Ever since his extradition from Slovakia in 2022, he has been detained.
The man and his companion joined the 16-year-old victim and her pals at a park where they were socialising and enjoying drinks. The court heard that before this, they were strangers to one another, reports The Mirror.
Horvath and his companion were given further booze, and the others drank more. The girl informed him she was sixteen when they first spoke. “Age is just a number,” he said, urging her to increase her alcohol intake.
Gerard Clarke SC, the prosecutor, was informed by a local garda that the girl was asked whether she “would like sex with two dicks” and if she liked “big dicks” when the talk became sexual, reports The Mirror.
Horvath inserted his hand inside her panties and she inserted hers into his. He led her into a more private section of the park, where he sexually assaulted her. The victim attempted to shove the man away after telling him no.
When one of her female friends discovered them, Horvath looked up and pointed her phone’s torch at them, reports The Mirror.
After informing her mother, the victim filed a complaint with the gardaí. A few days later, they searched Horvath’s house and confiscated clothes that matched the CCTV footage.
Horvath departed the jurisdiction soon after and has been detained ever since he was extradited, via a European Arrest Warrant, back to Ireland in December 2022, reports The Mirror.
