It has been revealed in the past hour that members of the country’s biggest trade union SIPTU, have organised ballots for its members for industrial action and strike action in a dispute over public service pay.
The news comes after the union held a meeting earlier today at Dublin’s Liberty Hall. In a statement, the union said itĀ had recommended the acceptance of austerity measures across the private and public serviceĀ “throughout the very difficult years since the economic collapse of 2008”.
The union also said that “We always made it clear that when circumstances changed we would take whatever action was necessary to re-take lost ground”.
