If you’re putting off showing up at your local library with that book you borrowed three years ago, you’re in luck, as fines for late book returns have now been scrapped.
Instead, customers will now receive three reminders. After that, their library card will be blocked and they will not be able to take out any more books until the ones on loan are returned.
The change has been brought about as fines were thought to have a ‘detrimental’ effect on library membership, particularly regarding children and those with a disadvantaged background.
