Heartfelt tributes have been paid to a “lovely, kind” mother of two who tragically lost her life in a head-on collision in Co Cork on Mother’s Day, reports The Mirror.

Susan O’Sullivan (née Heelan), 41, originally from Boherbue in north Cork but residing in Beechwood Park, Mallow, was killed instantly when her car collided with another vehicle on the N72 Mallow-Killarney road just before 4pm on Sunday.

Ms. O’Sullivan’s two young children, Mollie and Rowan, were with her in the car at the time of the crash. While she was pronounced dead at the scene, the boy and girl were urgently transported to Cork University Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, reports The Mirror.

The driver of the second vehicle, 64-year-old Marie Coughlan from Mitchelstown, also lost her life in the devastating accident.

Ms. O’Sullivan had just visited her mother with her children and was returning home to Mallow after a trip to an adventure centre when the tragedy occurred.

She is survived by her husband, Gavin, whom she married in 2018, their two children Mollie and Rowan, her parents Una and Gerard, and her sisters Lorraine, Sinéad, Siobhán, and Roisín, reports The Mirror.

A cherished and highly respected member of the community, Ms. O’Sullivan was actively involved in local charitable work through Good Shepherd Cork, an organization supporting women, children, and families facing homelessness.

The 41-year-old mother has been remembered as “a beautiful soul who always put the needs of her children first,” in heartfelt tributes shared by loved ones online.

“Deepest condolences to Gavin, Mollie, Rowan and the extended Heelan & O Sullivan families on the untimely passing of Susan. She was a caring loving mum who always put the needs of her children first, such a lovely person. You are all in my thoughts and prayers as you try and navigate through this difficult time,” one person said, reports The Mirror.

Another added: “Our sincere condolences to Gavin, Mollie and Rowan, and all of Susan’s family and friends. We are truly heartbroken to hear of Susan’s tragic passing. She was a beautiful soul, full of laughter, love, and song. The joy she brought into the lives of everyone around her is something we will always carry with us, and we will forever cherish the memories of the times we spent together, her infectious laughter, warmth, and the kindness and support she always showed. Susan’s spirit was truly one of a kind. Our thoughts are with you all during this incredibly difficult time,” reports The Mirror.

A third person said: “Susan is such a beautiful person, words can’t describe what a devastating and heartbreaking loss it is to have lost her in such a tragic way. Her infectious laugh and beautiful way of looking at life will forever be imprinted on many people. She was just that type of person that everyone was drawn to. A ray of pure sunshine. I’m honoured to have called her a friend,” reports The Mirror.

A close pal wrote: “Heartfelt sympathy to Gavin, Mollie and Rowan. To Susan’s parents and sisters and extended family on Susan’s untimely passing.
