In only a few days, applications will be accepted for a €2,000 one-time social welfare payment, reports The Mirror.
Carers who receive the Carer’s Support Grant are given a lump sum payment that they are free to spend anyway they see appropriate.
Some people use the award to pay for care-related items and services, while others use it to pay for more typical daily costs like electricity, reports The Mirror.
Regardless of their financial situation or social insurance contributions, every carer who provides full-time care to an elderly or disabled person is eligible for the stipend.
If a carer provides care for more than one person, they will get numerous payments since the non-means-tested yearly payment is given out for each individual they look for, reports The Mirror.
The Carer’s Support Grant was raised from €1,850 to €2,000 as of Budget 2025.
Here is all the information you need to know about the social welfare payment and how to apply for the Carer’s Support Grant, which will open for applications on April 1, reports The Mirror.
For whom is the Carer’s Support Grant available?
Those who receive one of the following payments automatically get the Carer’s Support Grant:
- Full and half-rate caregiver’s allowances
- Benefit for Carers: Allowance for Domestic Care.
You may still be eligible for the Carer’s Support Grant even if you do not get one of these benefits. You have to be:

You should complete an application for a Carer’s Support Grant for each individual you are caring for if you are not receiving one of the aforementioned payments. A grant is provided for each individual you care for if you are providing care for multiple people, reports The Mirror.
You might not need to reapply this year if you were not receiving any of the aforementioned payments but were awarded the Carer’s Support Grant the previous year.
Before June, the Department should get in touch with you to ask that you verify that you are still offering full-time care and that you still fulfil the other requirements for eligibility. The completed questionnaire will be used to evaluate your eligibility for this year’s Carer’s Support Grant, therefore you must return it, reports The Mirror.
When to submit an application
For any given year, you can apply for a Carer’s Support Grant between April of that year and December 31 of the following year.
The Carer’s Support Grant, for instance, is available for application at any point between April 2025 and December 31, 2026.
The Carer’s Support Grant is paid when?
