Minister of State for People with Disabilities Anne Rabbitte and Fine Gael TD Ciaran Cannon said bags of excrement were thrown at them at a meeting last night.
Ms Rabbitte, a Fianna Fáil TD for Galway East, tweeted that the purse was being lobbed at her and a fellow government official.
In a Twitter post, Mr Cannon, who is also a TD for Galway East, said a separate purse had been thrown at him.
Several politicians expressed their support for Minister Rabbitte on social media following the incident.
Social media users who were in the vicinity said “a man threw a bag of sh*t at them when they came in and he remained at the meeting the whole time”.
