According to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, more than 900,000 Irish passports have been issued this year.
The number has increased by 7% compared to 2018 and sets a new record. It consists of renewals and new applications.
RTE report that according to the department, more than 5,800 applications from around the world were received in one day during peak hours.
The total number of monthly requests exceeded 100,000 in January, March, April and May 2019.
