A sign of things to come? China advises citizens to stockpile necessities ahead of winter

The Chinese government has advised its citizens to stockpile essentials as winter sets in as the threat of Covid-19 outbreaks, global supply shortages and rising tensions with Taiwan and other regional powers spark fears of war.

Beijing’s Ministry of Commerce released the advisory on Monday, 1st November informing citizens to maintain adequate stocks of basic necessities on hand as the winter season approaches.

The Economic Daily, a Communist Party-backed newspaper, told citizens on its website that the Ministry of Commerce’s warning was to make certain people were prepared in the event of another COVID lockdown however China’s domestic supply problems have been exacerbated by heavy rains.

With growing calls for lockdowns in Western countries, including Ireland, as the Covid-19 vaccine fails to stop or even slow the spread of the Chinese virus and fears over the global supply network some citizens here are also stockpiling as precaution.
