Four members of a family have been killed in a car crash in Co Westmeath. The occupants of the car are understood to have been a women and her three daughters.
The accident is believed to have happened near Mullingar shortly before 8am today (Saturday) on the N4 Dublin Sligo Road, at Port na Shangan just north of Mullingar.
The occupants of the vehicle were killed when the car they were travelling in crashed into a jeep.
The driver and sole occupant of the jeep who was man was taken to hospital. But it is understood that his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
The section of the N4 road is currently closed while gardaà carry out a technical examination of the scene. Diversions are in place.
