Abolition of Irish Water, crux for the formation of government

endaandmichael

Irish Water, Anglo’s malformed twin, threatens to bring down the entire political system in Ireland once again.

The wretched utility remains the main stumbling block for the formation of a working goverment. Fine Gael wants to maintain the company and water charges, while Fianna Fail would like to suspend charges for five years and introduce a ‘slimmed down’ entity to deal with water issues.

Negotiations between the parties remain deadlocked, as both leaders failed again in their bids to become the next Taoiseach.

Further talks between Fine Gael and Fianna Fail will go ahead today, but it is understood that Micheal Martin has now given up on the idea of the formation of a minority government.
