A proposed 5.5% pay rise over two years for ESB workers is likely to kickstart another raft of pay demands among other public sector workers.
The rise will be given in two equal increases of 2.75% over 24 months for the company’s 6,000-plus staff. Under the proposls, there will also be a revised lump sum payment, on top of a 2% rise that was granted in April 2015.
Such deal will be scrutinized by workers in other sectors, and it’s likely to spark further unrest.
