Gardai believe they may have finally solved the tragic disappearance of Philip Cairns, the 13-year-old schoolboy who went missing in Dublin in 1986.

A woman came forward last month with new information which detectives believe to be credible. They

The woman informed gardai that the convicted paedophile Eamon Cooke may have killed Philip Cairns at the studios of his pirate radio station, ‘Dublin Radio’, on the 23rd of October 1986.

The boy was walking home from Colaiste Eanna having completed his first month in secondary school.

She told gardai that Cooke knew Philip and had offered to show the boy his radio station.

The 79-year-old died last week and while he confirmed some aspects of the woman’s statement, he never told the gardaí where the child’s remains are buried, even though they asked him to tell a third party who could disclose the boy’s whereabouts after Cooke had died.

She told the gardai a row broke out and Cooke hit the boy who was knocked down. The woman fainted and when she woke up, she said Cooke was driving here in a car.

Philip Cairns’ family have been informed of the developments but the case remains open and gardaí are still appealing for information to find boy’s whereabouts.

The woman waited almost 30 years to come forward with the information.
