The Gardai say they have launched an internal investigation after a number of reports have emerged claiming that a number of motorists have been fined multiple times for having no NCT certificate.
The investigation comes after the Gardaí found that a number of motorists were unlawfully prosecuted repeatedly for not having an NCT cert, even though they already paid their outstanding fine.
It is understood a full review of such cases will take place over the coming weeks. The Gardai have also issued an apology saying they deeply regret any inconvenience caused to all drivers affected by the issue.
