The Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan has revealed that a vacant property on Achill Island could be used to house 40 asylum seekers.

According to RTÉ News, a hotel in the region could be temporarily used to house asylum seekers.

The news comes after a public meeting was held following speculation that the Achill Head Hotel in Keel, could be used as a temporary accommodation for asylum seekers.

It is understood the meeting raised concerns over the lack of infrastructure in the region.

It is believed that many residents would like further consultation before the centre is approved.
