Wrap up well – The Bank Holiday weekend is going to be very chilly

People have been advised to get out the winter coat as winter temperatures appear to be making a first appearance in 2019.

The national forecaster Met Eireann is predicting widespread cold and showers and have issued a Status Yellow warning for heavy rain affecting Waterford and Wexford. It’s understood that up to 30mm of rain are expected to fall over the next 24-36h. The warning will kick in at 10am on Friday morning and remain in place until 6am on Saturday.

Generally, Friday is expected to be a day of freezing temperatures, as the thermometer is not expected to rise beyond single digits for the entire day. Friday night will be rather chilly, with temperatures expected to sink below freezing.

Saturday and Sunday are forecast to be bright but cold, with daytime temperatures reaching 8-9C at best, and just above zero at night.
