Covid-19 is “everywhere,” and the public should assume other people are contracting the virus if they enter a crowded space, acting chief medical officer Dr. Breda Smyth claims.
Smyth, who after the departure of Dr. Tony Holohan, is now acting as CMO. She reiterated the requirement for people in eligible groups to use their first or second Covid-19 booster.
The acting CMO also called for the use of face masks in certain settings as Ireland battles the latest wave of the virus.
Smyth said the majority of hospital admissions for Covid-19 are in people over 65 and warned the virus is here in the medium and long term.
Meanwhile people on social media are claiming that Smyth is just spreading fear as the rest of us try and get on with things.
