New figures released by Aer Lingus reveal that the airline carried a record breaking eleven million passengers in 2014.

This latest figure is up more than 3% on the number of passengers reported for 2013. On that year, Aer Lingus transported 10.7 million passengers.

Long haul passenger numbers rose by 20%, but short haul figures dipped by 1%.

A total of 705,000 passengers flew with Aer Lingus last month. That figure is less than the 733,000 reported for the same period last year.

Short haul traffic was reduced by 8.2% to 517,000 passengers compared to 563,000 in December 2013. At the same time, long haul passengers numbers were up 20% to 102,000. This compares to 85,000 in the same month in 2013.
