Underwater search teams and remotely controlled drones have located the tail of the AirAsia Airbus that vanished over the Java Sea eleven days ago.
This is the first confirmed sighting of the aircraft’s wreckage, as divers were able to take a photograph of the debris.
The plane’s cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder are located on the tail, so air crash investigators are hopeful that they will be able to recover these crucial parts with relative ease.
40 bodies have been recovered so far, and it is believed most of the passengers remain inside the fuselage.
Flight 8501 disappeared in bad weather over the Java Sea on December 28 last, with 162 people on board.
