Air France flight AF-733 was en route from the Dominican Republic to Paris with 156 passengers and crew on board when it was forced to divert to Shannon airport over fire concerns.

The Boeing 747-400’s crew declared an emergency when a fire alarm was triggered in the plane’s cargo hold.

The aircraft landed safely shortly before 10am this morning. Emergency services at the airport were standing by.

The passengers were disembarked by portable stairs and firefighting crews entered cargo hold. No sign of fire was found and nobody was injured during the event.

The theory is that heat from a cargo of vegetables triggered the alarm.
