Alarming: Latest figures show that one in ten Irish children are the victim of cyberbullying

According to a new report published by Dublin City University’s national anti-bullying research and resource centre, the rate of cyberbullying amongst young people is rapidly rising.

The alarming figures which were released to encourage parents to tackle the issue head on, show that nearly 14% of primary school children have said they were cyberbullied at some point over the past five years.

Meanwhile 10% of secondary school students have revealed they were also subjected to online bullying from fellow students.

Parents are being encouraged to monitor their children’s online activities as well as talk to their child in order to intervene in the issue.

The news of the rate of cyberbullying comes ahead of safer internet day on Tuesday February 7th.
